A Refreshing Summer Treat For Your Dog

A Refreshing Summer Treat For Your Dog

Can Dogs Eat Watermelon?

They certainly can. Most dogs love watermelon, and it's a great thirst quenching treat for them on a hot summers day.

Watermelon is actually a really healthy treat to give to your dog, but don't let them eat the seeds or the rind, just in case it causes a blockage.

Not only does it help stop them from becoming dehydrated - watermelon is 92% water - it also contains amino acids, antioxidants and vitamiins, and is a good source of lycopene (good for heart and bone health). Source https://www.livescience.com/46019-watermelon-nutrition.html

Watermelon Dog Treats

You can feed the watermelon fresh, just as it comes. Or you can freeze chunks of watermelon and feed as treats, or add to the waterbowl as fancy ice cubes!

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, blend some watermelon with yogurt, and pop into some ice cube moulds in your freezer. They look really cute if you make them in the silicone paw print moulds.

You could also pour this into a Kong and then freeze to give a longer lasting treat that your dog will need to work a little harder for.

If you have a banana hanging around that is past it's best, your dog will love you forever if you blend the banana and watermelon together. Add a little yogurt or not, your choice. Freeze in blocks - get creative and use a small bully stick or shark cartilage for your dog's very own pupsicle.
