Can I Feed Raw Fish to My Dog?

If you are a raw feeder, including raw fish a couple of times a week introduces another protein into the rotation, and gives your dog a healthy dose of Omega 3. It is advisable to freeze fish prior to raw feeding for at least a week, to ensure that any parasites are killed.

Even if you do not feed raw, give your dog a salmon head as a treat once a week or so and he will think it is Christmas and birthday all at once.

Salmon is a great lean protein. It is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, zinc, iron, calcium and vitamin A. All of these are beneficial for your dog.

Crunching through a salmon head is great for dental health. If their breath is a bit stinky afterwards, mmmm raw fish - a couple of our Minty Fresh Biscuits will help.

Can Dogs Eat Dehydrated Fish Treats?

They certainly can - dehydrated fish has all the health benefits of raw fish, but is not as messy, and it is easier to give a smaller treat sized amount. In fact, if your dog is watching his waistline, fish treats are a great option for a healthy reward.

Health Benefits of Fish

Fish is an easily digested protein, which is especially beneficial for dogs following digestive issues, and for those with liver or kidney diease.

Fish is a natural source of vitamins and minerals - calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, phosphorous, iodine and iron are all readily available in fish, as are Vitamins A, B3, B6, B12 and Vitamin D.

Fish is packed with beneficial Omega 3 fatty acids. This is necessary to maintain healthy joints and tendons, and is a key factor in keeping dogs mobile, especially those suffering with arthritis.
